Cultural Differences - Skin Color
Indians are paranoid about being fair skinned and would go to any lengths to make themselves fair. Believe me, nobody even looks at a dark chocolate colored South Indian young woman like me! We even have a saying that not even common living things like flies or crows would care about us. Being dark skinned, my parents would find it difficult to get me married as color matters - a lot (well, color alone doesnt always matter, but it is an important criteria)! You look at a advt in a Sunday Hindu classifieds for brides and you would laugh - wanted very fair, beautiful, tall, slim girl with BE below24 yrs of age from xx caste and from a rich family. Going by the looks of it, i would never find an Indian groom as i dont meet any of the above specifications. But, foreigners love my color. They think i am beautiful. I find it ridiculous, and i am not sure if they are joking or just want to make me feel better. Anyways, its a funny world.
